On the evening of Saturday, March 31st, the entire city of Sydney, Australia held a one hour blackout as a call to action for the issues of global warming. While Australia has the most greenhouse gas emittance per capita, this is a step in the right direction as their city sponsored the event, showing that their government has not only acknowledged the problem, but also that they are willing to act along with Australian citizens to try to curb global warming. Following a conference of U.S. and European polar ice experts at the University of Texas in Austin on Thursday, March 29th, a statement was issued reporting surprisingly rapid changes” were occurring in Antarctica’s Amundsen Sea Embayment. This texas-sized piece of Antartic ice sheet is melting faster than expected and could cause ocean levels to rise significantly. To read more, click here.
